038: A new digital home for PLATTE.Berlin, the next-gen fashion hub

Julia here, with a project update! Last week we launched a new website for PLATTE.Berlin, a non-profit community hub for the next generation of fashion talents. PLATTE’s mission is to create a platform where creatives can connect, learn and collaborate, shaping a sustainable and inclusive future for fashion.

When Harry and I met the PLATTE team at their space, we were quite impressed: PLATTE’s location is as captivating as the project itself—a historical Plattenbau at Berlin’s Alexanderplatz. A Plattenbau is a type of building constructed using large, prefabricated concrete slabs (the name literally means Platte = "slab" and Bau = "building”), which became especially common in East Germany in the mid-20th century. They were designed for functionality and cost-effective construction and have a very minimalistic look. We wanted to translate this character into the new website—to build a functional and easy to maintain modular system that the team could manage themselves.

We decided to use Webflow, migrating the existing content from Wordpress and rethinking the website structure. The new site celebrates Berlin’s fashion community through distinctive photography and bold typography, showcasing events organised by PLATTE and highlighting young independent designers represented in their store. With this iteration, we also wanted to give more attention to the PLATTE Studio, a space for all kinds of creative photo shoots.

An animation cycling though different screenshots of the new PLATTE website, displayed in a desktop browser, showing a photo studio, a range of fashion products and an event calendar. Next to it is a screenshot from a mobile viewport, showing a photo of a person’s face and hand from the side, with expressive jewelry and the text: “Berlin’s only Plattenbau for next gen fashion”
A screenshot of the new PLATTE website, showing a large photo of brutalist buildings, with the text overlayed: “A space. A platform. A community.”

Thanks go out to the PLATTE team, especially Kathy, Arne and Melina for working closely with us, and Malwin for art direction and initial designs, which we then refined and implemented.

A collage of three mobile viewport screenshots of the new PLATTE website on a bright yellow background. The screenshots show a description of equipment in the PLATTE studio, a grid of fashion items to buy and an event page with the title “Zusammen with Cupra”.

If you're in Berlin or planning a visit, check out PLATTE's events and stop by their store!

Kind regards,
